Labrys (λάβρυς in Greek, lábrys) - the term for a symmetric double-headed axe originally from Crete in Greece, one of the oldest symbols of Greek civilization. The symbol was commonly associated with female divinities. In the 1970s, the labrys was adopted by lesbians as a lesbian-feminist symbol, representing strength and general amzonian bad-assery. The labrys lesbian flag was created in 1999, and has a labrys on an inverted black triangle and set against a violet background.
